Yellow Goose Dance

a new experience in music and dance

The Yellow Goose Experience

"I found out about your wonderful gig quite by accident and had a brilliant time - like an intimate evening wedding reception with dance lessons"

Yellow Goose Dance brings you a whole new experience in live music and dance. A seven piece live band plays catchy, original songs, with sweet harmonies, rock solid beats and sizzling horn section. Add to this an experienced dance teacher to walk you through basic moves to a wide range of Latin and Ballroom dances.

Learn to Samba, Salsa, Cha Cha, Rumba, Jive, Charleston, Foxtrot, Waltz and many more. Dress fancy and wear slippery shoes. Be prepared to find your hips.

We are also now offering a stripped-down, acoustic version of the full band, with or without dance tuition, and we are keen to offer this to a range of community and voluntary groups and agencies to support your social events and contribute to your fundraising. Give us a call and we will try and work something out. See our community page for more info.

Yellow Goose + Fowl

YELLOW GOOSE DANCE Yellow Goose Dance brings you 7 of the regions finest musicians playing a unique blend of infectiously rhythmic tunes, sweet vocal harmonies, rock solid beats and sizzling horns, playing a range of Latin & Ballroom musical styles including Samba, Salsa, Cha Cha, Rumba, Jive, Charleston, Foxtrot, Waltz. Sometimes they come with a live dance teacher, but this time out it’s just the music. Do the dance or do your own thing. Dress fancy and wear slippery shoes. Be prepared to find your hips. What they say …. "The best night out I have EVER had" FOWL Hugh Nankivell and Graham Browning are Fowl. In March this year they released their lockdown album Humankindweed, a collection of songs written and produced entirely remotely. They sing about Weeds, Holes, Humans, and Mountains, they play moon guitars, toy keyboards and scissors, and they have a sound entirely their own. They will be joined in Huddersfield by Richard Evans. Ben McCabe and Dean Brodrick. Praise for Fowl’s lockdown album Humankindweed: I absolutely love it… 'Humankind' could be a Ray Davies song in a parallel universe…unique and special. Dave Gregory (XTC) A beautiful, deep work of art … Humankind manages to bring together all of the strengths of the project in one distilled song - it is my favourite lockdown song from this hellish plague we have lived through. Blake Leyh (film composer/sound designer incl HBO’s ‘The Wire’)

Community

Community is it.

Community is central to what we do, connecting people through music and dance. During the pandemic we missed playing music together really badly, and we missed the joy of a room full of people laughing and dancing together. As soon as it was possible to meet again we started doing so as a smaller group, outside at first but more recently indoors. The songs work really well with just three voices, and acoustic guitar and/or ukulele, sometimes with a sax and some percussion too.

We are now keen to offer this smaller version of the band for the benefit of all beings, and in particular for smaller events that promote the kinds of causes we believe in and support people who maybe find it more difficult to access mainstream events. If you are launching a community orchard, responding to the climate emergency, working with hearing or sight impaired people, learning disabilities, starting a repair shop, or you just want a party in your living room do please get in touch and we will try and work out how we can help.

In fact if you have any ideas about how Yellow Goose, large or small, can help your community, we want to hear them.

Bookings

If you are looking for a truly unique twist to your wedding, party, festival, wake, celebration, fundraiser or event of any kind, why not book Yellow Goose Dance?

Our fees are very reasonable and vary according to your needs. Book for the band plus a dance teacher for a full-on event, just the band, or maybe just a smaller acoustic-style ensemble. Fees are generally negotiable, and we are happy to offer discounted rates for community and charity events.

If you are looking for a wedding dance package check out our dance teacher Tristan Edgar’s studio at https://www.tristandance.com/

We have a full PA with sound engineer and can arrange additional playlists to supplement the live band where required.

Based in Huddersfield, currently working across the North, and happy to go further afield. Whatever your needs, get in touch and we can work something out to suit you.

Yellow Goose Dance serves up a unique blend of original live music and real-time dance tuition in a range of Latin & Ballroom styles, a kind of hip Strictly. A 7 piece band made up of sizzling horns, sumptuous harmonies and sinuous dance moves combining seamlessly into a brilliant night-out. Formed in late 2015 from a range of highly experienced and hugely talented musicians from the region they have sold out a series of self-promoted events, played at weddings, parties, festivals and events across the region. Dress fancy and wear slippery shoes. It’s a sweaty and joyous experience.

Yellow Goose is the bastard brainchild of Phil Russell, longtime composer, musician and songwriter of a string of eccentric, wildly catchy and infectiously rhythmic tunes. He went to learn how to dance and figured he could do better. In cahoots with dance teacher Tristan Edgar, and a marvellous bunch of musicians, he did.
